The Homestake Opera House is stepping into a new and exciting chapter of restoration with Phase 1 of our much-anticipated renovation work beginning this month! This work includes critical HVAC, mechanical, and electrical upgrades in the former library space, bridal room, and art center. We’ll also be renovating the downstairs bathrooms and hallway off of Julius Street, and framing out and finishing the room that currently houses the kiln.
This important work is just the beginning. It prepares us for the larger-scale HVAC, mechanical, and electrical upgrades in the main theatre, which we hope to begin in 2026.
In addition to what’s ahead, we’ve already made meaningful improvements inside the theatre. Our team has been hard at work improving the theatrical sound quality, with plans in place to make significant upgrades to stage lighting. We’ve also installed a new motorized projection screen (donated by Madison Sound), which pairs perfectly with the projector generously donated by SURF, allowing us to offer movies once again at the Opera House (see below for information on upcoming films)! And, we are currently working to improve the dressing rooms under the stage and the sound and lighting booth in the balcony.
We invite you to drop in for a visit, schedule a tour, or join us at one of our upcoming events to experience these exciting changes for yourself. And as we approach the end of the year, we encourage you to consider the Opera House for your year-end giving. With your support, we will complete this vital work and celebrate the restoration of a place that holds so much of our community’s history, hopes, and aspirations.
Together, we are bringing the Homestake Opera House to life for generations to come!

Todd Jones
